Music has a very important place in our lives. It follows on from our faith in God as a creative power for good both through listening and performing music. It provides a help and a comfort in our daily lives as well as being a vehicle for the praise and worship of God. Although we are predominantly non-professional classical musicians, we enjoy almost every type of music. We play instruments but also enjoy singing both at church and in taking every opportunity to sing together with others. We have also taught music and would encourage every one to give music a place in their lives. Everyone can sing even if a little help and encouragement is needed to get started. It is also never too late in life to take up a musical instrument.

Pam plays the flute, oboe and sings. See more details on her page. Alan plays the organ, recorder, clarinet and bassoon. Again see more details on his page. Pam's favourite composer is Mozart while Alan is a lover of J.S. Bach. Both of us love a wide range of music and composers. See our composer pages. We think it is important that one never stops learning in life and so we both have instrument lessons. Details of our teachers and some of our favourite muscians can be found on the appropriate pages. Alan (Bassoon) & Pam (Oboe) both play in the Light Orchestra at Bird College (Sidcup) conducted by Martin Gostling. We have both played in Dartford Concert Band and Pam has played in the Greenwich Concert Band.

Flute

We take the opportunity to have musical holidays whenever possible. We have both attended RSCM courses and the organist and singer course at Sarum College in the cathedral close at Salisbury. We also go regularly to the Three Choirs Festival at Hereford and to the Two Moors Festival in Devon. We went for the first time in 2004 to the St. David's Festival in Wales and having been attendinng regularly ever since. We also went on a musicians Sailing Cruise with Classic Sailing. The annual Rochester Diocesan Choirs Festival is another favourite. We get to sing at this rather than just listening!
